Barleywine is here!

Barleywine holds a special place in our hearts. It’s heady flavor kicks your taste buds into overdrive and makes this beer perfect for an after dinner drink. Plus, with an ABV of 10.5% the barleywine rivals any glass of wine. That’s why we’re excited to release Balter, a barleywine aged in rye whiskey barrels, which as its name suggests, will have you dancing without much grace but with pure enjoyment by the time you top off the bottle.

This warming, spicy, and luscious beer began its journey brewed from a selection of English ale malts, English hops, and traditional brewing methods. After fermentation was complete, Balter spent the next couple of months in wet, rye whiskey barrels. The result is a smooth and fruity mix of coconut, vanilla, toffee and rye whiskey aromas.

Mentions of barleywine date back as far as the ancient Greeks. Of course, the Greeks were missing one key ingredient: Hops, which are a key component in barleywines and didn’t arrive on the scene until several centuries later. While barleywines range in flavor from lively and sweet to hoppy and chocolaty, they are always boozy. Today, barleywines are a seasonal favorite. In fact, Paste Magazine  rounded up its favorite barleywines, so if you love ours, check out this list of top contenders to try.

And if you’re wondering what foods to pair with this flavor bomb, we can help.  Suggestions include blue or Gorgonzola cheese, salted nuts, cured ham and olives. If you’re up for a true epicurean treat, make yourself a pizza layered with olive oil, prosciutto, figs and blue cheese and pour a glass of Balter to round out the night.

Cheers!
