Monthly outdoor education series where we will learn a new outdoor skill/topic each month. The modern version of dinner and a show! Each ticket includes a free draft beer from Brew Co. Socialize with others over great food and drinks while learning some fun and engaging outdoor topics!
Mar 22:
Learn the concepts behind foraging and how to identify wild food resources! Enjoy this fun and engaging time while you socialize with great food and drinks! First beer is included in ticket price!
April 19:
Can you “read” a river? What is a strainer, eddy, or rootwad? This session will focus on basic river safety skills & knowledge that every paddler should know, regardless of how long you have been paddling
May 24:
Learn the concepts behind bird watching and learn the new advancements in technology that help us more easily get into this activity as beginners!
June 21:
Learn the concepts topographic map reading and enjoy some fun activities to help learn this unique skill.
July 19:
Learn the basics of bike maintenance! After learning the fundamentals enjoy working together to sovle basic bike problems – go home feeling confident that you know how to take care of the most common problems you can have with your bike!
Aug 23:
Join us as we explore Springfield’s history through the channel of Jordan Creek. Bring your waders or rubber boots and a sense of adventure as we learn more about why the Jordan was “boxed” and what impact that has on it and other area streams.
Sept 20:
Learn the basics principles of Leave No Trace by a certified LNT instructor. Everyone will actually get a certification after taking this course. Enjoy time with others while learning about fundamental ways to leave less of an impact as we explore our outdoors.
Oct 25:
Heard haunted stories that are from real history of the Ozarks. Gather around as we hear stories that not only will leave you a bit spooked, but will teach you some fascinating history of our region! JRBP Project Manager Todd Wilkinson will tell traditional Ozarks ghost stories, including the James River yarn “The Ghost of Virgin Bluff”, and how it relates to water quality.
Nov 15:
Travel back in time as we learn about this important prehistoric site in Greene County, which is considered to be the oldest depository of ice age bones in North America. Matt Forir, Executive Director, Missouri Institute of Natural Science, will be our guest speaker.
Dec 13:
The trade blanket is a long tradition of many of our ancestor tribes. Come enjoy this fun event where we will take this tradition and adapt it to outdoor gear trading. Bring your old/unused gear and put it up for trade – who knows, you just may go home with the best holiday gift you get all season!
